Lyn Woodfield

Sadly, November 2008 saw the passing of one of the Seaford Musical Theatre's longest serving and best loved members. Lyn lost her long and brave battle against cancer.

Lyn joined what was then the Seaford & District Amateur Operatic Society in 1968 and appeared on stage in the chorus of 'The Quaker Girl' in that year. She was soon taking named roles and became one of the Society's lead singers. Her performances as Mad Margaret in 'Ruddigore', Katisha in 'The Mikado' and the Duchess in 'The Gondoliers', to name just three of her main character parts, brought great joy to her as well as to our audiences. Her name has been somewhere in most programmes over her 40 years of membership.

She was active on behalf of the Society off stage as well as on and was one of those who worked long and hard to bring to fruition our dream of a theatre of our own. The Barn Theatre today is a thriving reminder of those efforts. Lyn served on the Committee for many years and her knowledge and expertise were invaluable on countless occasions. Although her illness prevented her from attending The Barn in the last few months of her life, she will be greatly missed by those many people who knew and loved her.

Lyn was also involved with our offshoot group, 'Cavalcade', for whom she acted as Musical Director. There will be a special tribute show in Lyn's memory on April 11th, 2009. The proceeds will go to her favourite charities including Help the Aged, an organisation to which she devoted many hours of time over many years of voluntary service.
