Previously known as Seaford and District Amateur Operatic Society, we have been performing since 1927, when the  first  production was Gilbert and Sullivan's  "H.M.S. Pinafore". The Society prospered, and went from one success to another.  In the early days shows were held in the Queen's Hall and when that was no longer available, Seaford Head School Hall was used.

In the early 1980s, we began staging our shows at The Barn, which was previously a warehouse and cottage. The first show performed at the new venue was Gilbert and Sullivan's 'The Mikado' in May 1983. With the help of grants, endless fundraising, and a very generous donation, the site was purchased in 1985 and an extension was built to house the stage, foyer, bar and dressing rooms.

A major contribution from Seaford Film Society enabled the Society to increase the size of the lighting/projection booth in order to house film projectors in addition to lighting and sound consoles.

On 6th November 1999  a gala re-opening was held to unveil the theatre's 'new' tiered seating and carpets which were a gift as the result of a refit at The Dome Theatre, Brighton.

Throughout this time, we predominately staged Gilbert and Sullivan operettas two or three times a year, but as time went by a desire to stage a wider variety of musical shows grew and in 2006 we changed our name to Seaford Musical Theatre to more accurately reflect our repertoire. The first show under the new name was
‘a trip through the swinging sixties’ called ‘Jukebox Journey’. This was a great success and led to many more Musicals, Shows and Pantomimes being staged.

In 2014 a very generous donation from the Keith Baker Trust allowed us to install facilities for our disabled patrons.

Seaford Musical Theatre performs three shows a year; a Pantomime in January, a Variety show in May and a well known Musical in September. Our very highly successful younger group, Seaford Musical Theatre Juniors, stages two shows a year.

Seaford Musical Theatre is a registered charity. We receive no statutory funding and rely entire on the profits from our own shows, hire fees, donations and other fund raising activities to allow us to continue offering quality entertainment to the Seaford Community.

New members are always welcome and there are many opportunities to perform on stage or help out behind the scenes.

Annual membership is £25 together with a £1 fee for each rehearsal for those performing on stage. Rehearsals are normally held every Tuesday and Thursday at 7.30pm.
